Merry Christmas from Guatemala!
We hope this finds you all well and not too busy to enjoy the true meaning of the holidays. Christmas time here is pretty low key and there is no running around and all the craziness that goes along with this time of year. We wrapped up the last week of school for the boys before Christmas break and are enjoying a couple of weeks off from the daily grind. The boys started going to a school for missionary kids in August - Jack 10th, Jon 8th, Jed 3rd. It was a little bit of an adjustment at first but it's going really well and they love it! They are enjoying school activities and new friends - kids who are in the same boat and "get" the life of a missionary kid.
It's official ~ Angela and Kendy are Steeds! We finally have their birth certificates with us listed as their parents. Since all Guatemalans have 2 last names, they do too - Steed Steed. Soon we will apply for visas and maybe visit the US - that's another process... The next step is to wait 2 years before we can apply for citizenship. We are very much looking forward to traveling back as a family soon! It's been over 2 years.
The girls are doing well. We are still adjusting to some things but overall, its going fine. Angela will start school in January. We haven't decided yet where she will go - homeschool or local school. Kendy's going to hang out at home with Mommy. :)
In September we moved to the Project for Hope property. We live in a "normal" house again where everything is inside as opposed to outside. However, we've still had our fair share of creatures - mice, bats, dung beetles, spiders and a feral cat... inside! Never a dull moment but it's been nice to have the family together in the same space again. The only downside it that we don't have a kitchen but we can put one in later. The houses were originally set-up as a group living space for teens. For now, we use the cafeteria kitchen which isn't so bad since it's right next door. We are loving the wide, open space outside! The kids are always out playing and almost never inside which has been wonderful! We are thankful for the outside space.
We've been in Guatemala for almost 5 years now and this was a year of changes for us - girls, school, moving and starting a new ministry. We've all been stretched and are looking forward to the New Year, a fresh start, and all that God has in store. We are thankful for each of you, and knowing that there are people on the other side who stand with us makes all the difference in what we do here.
We send our love and blessings for a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Chris, Holly, Jack, Jon, Jed, Angela and Kendy
