Baby Dedication

Partnering together as we raise our children in the Lord.

Parenting is both a joyous blessing and a solemn responsibility. Here at Word Fellowship Church, we believe that children are a gift from the Lord (Psalm 127:3) and that the church is a family (Ephesians 2:19). Our desire is to partner together as parents and families as we raise up our children in the way they should go (Proverbs 22:6).

All baby/child dedications are done through our Small Groups, here at WFC. As part of a Small Group, parents build strong relationships with other believers who walk alongside them in the vital role of parenting.

Not yet a part of a Small Group? We offer Small Groups on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays! We currently offer child care and baby/child dedications in our Tuesday Night Small Group only.

If you are a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ and would like to dedicate your baby/child to the Lord here at Word Fellowship, we invite you to find out more. Contact the church office at 856.435.1771 or at wordfellowship@wordfc.org.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Biblical background of baby/child dedication?

  • Old Testament: In 1 Samuel 1, Hannah dedicated Samuel, the child she had prayed year after year for God to give to her, to the Lord. After Samuel was born, Hannah made this declaration: I prayed for this child, and the Lord granted me what I asked of Him. So now I give Him to the Lord. For his whole life he will be given over to the Lord.  I Samuel 1:27-28
  • New Testament: In Luke 2, Joseph and Mary took Jesus to the temple to dedicate Him.
  • In each instance, the parents entrusted their child completely to God.

What is the meaning of baby/child dedication?

  • Baby and child dedication is a commitment parents make with the Lord, their church family and each other to love, nurture and raise their children in a God-honoring way.

Where in Scripture can I found out more about raising my child in the Lord?

  • Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.  Deuteronomy 6:5-9
  • Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.  Proverbs 22:6
  • Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. “Honor your father and mother”—which is the first commandment with a promise— “so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.” Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.  Ephesians 6:1-4
